Complex and full of metamorphoses, Katarina Livljanic’s interpretation of this story, rooted in the Dalmatian Renaissance, transforms a Biblical narration into a theatrical experience, woven around characters who have emerged from the text to become profoundly human and alive for us today.

Norbert Rodenkirchen was born in Köln, where he studied flute at the Hochschule für Musik with Hans Martin Müller and later Baroque flute with Guenther Höller. In addition to extensive commissions as a composer of works for the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Theater Bremen, the Schauspiel Wuppertal as well as the West German Radio, his primary interest has been the theory and practice of medieval music.
Today, Norbert Rodenkirchen is an internationally recognized performer on medieval flutes. Performances with the ensemble Sequentia (dir. Benjamin Bagby) have taken him to Japan, Australia, Canada, the USA and many European countries. From 1998 to 2004 Norbert Rodenkirchen has been also performing on a regular basis with the ensemble Diphona, which he formed with the singer Maria Jonas. His newest project is his duo with the internationally acclaimed soprano Sabine Lutzenberger.
In addition to ensemble and theatre works Norbert Rodenkirchen concentrates on his solo programs „Tibia ex tempore“ with reconstructions of the medieval art of improvisation and “Flour de Flours” combining music by Guillaume de Machaut with modern compositions. With these solo programs he has been guest at important German festivals (f.e. Tage Alter Musik in Herne and Romanischer Sommer, Köln) and travelled to Sweden, Poland and France. He appeares on numerous recordings for Radio and CD, since 2000 mostly for marc aurel edition.

Excellent musicians Albrecht Maurer and Norbert Rodenkirchen were worth a whole orchestra. In their interaction with Katarina Livljanic’s marvellous voice, everything seemed like a perfect improvisation, created at the very moment of the performance.
