"I have never seen or heard anything so powerful, yet created with so few elements. Excellent musicians Albrecht Maurer and Norbert Rodenkirchen were worth a whole orchestra. (...) Everything seemed like a perfect improvisation, created at the very moment of the performance."

study with dialogos
Norbert Rodenkirchen was born in Köln, where he studied flute at the Hochschule für Musik with Hans Martin Müller and later Baroque flute with Guenther Höller. In addition to extensive commissions as a composer of works for the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Theater Bremen, the Schauspiel Wuppertal as well as the West German Radio, his primary interest has been the theory and practice of medieval music. Today, Norbert Rodenkirchen is an well recognized performer on medieval flutes. Apart from Dialogos he is member of the ensemble Sequentia since 1996 and has been invited to numerous international festivals with both groups. He has worked as well in duo projects with the singers Sabine Lutzenberger and Maria Jonas and in a modern context with the composer - improviser Albrecht Maurer.
Norbert Rodenkirchen is much in demand as a composer of music for theater and film as well as a producer for CD projects, most of them in coproduction with the WDR/ West German Radio and TV. Additionally he has given workshops on medieval instrumental improvisation at the Mozarteum Salzburg, at the festivals of Vancouver and Ambronay as well as at the conservatories of Lyon and Liege. In 2009 he released his second solo CD "Flour de Flours / Guillaume de Machaut / Lais & Virelais" on the Marc Aurel Edition label. Since 2003 Norbert Rodenkirchen is the artistic director of the concert series "Schnuetgen Konzerte – Musik des Mittelalters" in the medieval museum of Cologne.
Excerpts from the DVD "Judith", filmed in September 2010 in the Church of St. Donat (Zadar, Croatia), in coproduction with the Croatian National Television. Release planned for 2012.
Excellent musicians Albrecht Maurer and Norbert Rodenkirchen were worth a whole orchestra. In their interaction with Katarina Livljanic’s marvellous voice, everything seemed like a perfect improvisation, created at the very moment of the performance.
